A nuclear accident fused Ronnie Raymond with Professor Martin Stein, creating Firestorm. While an accident at a STAR Labs outpost in the arctic created Killer Frost. While enemies at first, they somehow managed to fall in love and settle down with Frost coming over to the side of good. From that union came Crystal. Born without any meta ability at first, the young family settled in Central City in the house next to one Jason and Joan Garrick. Upon returning to STAR Labs, they met Barry Allen, Iris West-Allen, Cisco Ramon (Vibe), Dr. Harrison Wells.
She had spent most of her life being in and around STAR Labs and in the company of heroes, growing close to those that she and her parents called family. Crys has seen her fair share of rookie heroes charge into the line of fire and come back without parts in tact. Seeing this, she decided that she wanted to work on metahuman prosthetics: to help the heroes that gave too much to protect their city.
Crystal proved herself to be a bright student, excelling in her studies, and graduating from Central City U with a double major: mechanical engineering and human physiology. She is working on her Eng.D in mechanical engineering and MD, focusing specifically on metahuman technology and prosthetics.
At the invitation of Nathaniel "Nate" Cooper, a fellow in her program, Crystal was at Central City U's engineering lab to watch a demonstration of a project that, in Nate's words: "Revolutionize how we see prosthetic!" Several prominent members of the engineering department, as well as all of her colleagues in her program attended the demonstration. However, a bomb was planted in the lab, detonated by the energy signature of Nate's project, causing an explosion, followed by an out of control fire.
The incident killed everyone that was in attendance. Crystal's metahuman abilities were awakened in the explosion and caused her to project an ice shield around herself to protect her from both the fire and shrapnel that came from the explosion.
After the EMTs gave her a clean bill of health, she got an escort home. Luckily, there was a note on the fridge to let her know that her parents needed to put in some "overtime" at the labs. In a state of shock and grief over the loss of her colleagues, Crystal was unsure that she wanted to tell her parents, or anyone, really, of her abilities. How she really survived such an attack.
Talk began to happen and there were whispers around campus, then around the city that Crystal was the one that started the fire, that planted the incendiary device. Soon enough, she lost people in her social circle, her classmates that remained, and became depressed, weighed down by survivor's guilt. She threw herself in her work and stuck to that instead of partaking in her once vibrant social life. She dropped out of the medical program, knowing that patients would not want to be seen to by someone that they thought was a murderer.
She has a fun, bright and playful personality and looks out for the people that she loves. She has an appreciation of life and also recited the hippocratic oath from memory as a young child.
